resume help/advice
Hi I need some help.
Im trying to make up my resume and im stuck. I have an associates in web design BUT no experience really. I have some job prospects but I need a resume. I got most of it fine except for the work experience part. I don’t feel like listing wal-mart automotive, ralph’s, and mervyn’s as my job experience because it isn’t relevant. I have done a tiny bit of freelance work such as www.humangerm.com/apr which is in progress but that’s about it. I also have been repairing and building computers on the side which seems more relevant. Does anyone have any idea how I should write up my work experience? If anyone could throw me some pointers or show me an example I would appreciate it so much. my portfolio itself is at www.humangerm.com |

Just because you are light on relevant work experience is no reason to avoid listing other work experience. Any work experience (particularlly when getting started) indicates you have a work ethic (at least one that can be verified) and understand the bit about getting up and going to work each day. In your cover letter, you talk about what you can do, your resume talks about what you have done. In your case, you should focus on writing a good cover letter. The best jobs, however, are the ones that are found by word of mouth and are not advertised, so start networking and find that unadvertised job.

focus on the goods
You could fluff it up a bit by creating categories like:
- Programming languages: - Technology experience: - Projects: Keep your employent cat short and sweet. They will show you can hold a job. Fluffing up the res like that is a little cheesy but it can impress an HR person and it will get you more hits on monster/dice/etc... And the projects thing - you had a final exam right? Can you phrase that to sound official? You must have done some pet projects you can brag about. Start working on something cool tonight - in two weeks with dilligence you can have another item for the ressy. Think like an artist - build a portfolio. Once you have that work history takes a backseat. |

You should make list of the modules in which you are beginner/advanced/and expert. Apart this if you have some knowledge like marketing/ Advertising/other skills which you deem best you can add on it, and prepare another list. You can assemble all details and can manage to create your resume giving it more descriptive. You should also add the cover letter to it, as it enables your employer to get information at a glance. |
