Software for tracking customer calls, emails, etc.
Lately I've been doing a bit of freelance consulting, mainly system troubleshooting, configuration, installation, etc.
Does anyone have any experience with CRM-like software for consultants? Realistically, all I'm looking for is something PHP/MySQL-based to track time spent on calls, on site, programming, track copies of emails, etc. - essentially establish a customer history and history of time spent. Thanks for any suggestions, J |

I will keep a eye out for you. I saw a program that included a few of the features you want but was lacking some of the main ones. You could always use Quickbooks, I am not exactly sure that it would complete what you want 100%, but it could manage a majority of your problems.

At this point, I'm running SugarCRM.
It has way more features than I need, but is workable. Unfortunately, one thing that seems to be missing is *simple* e-mail archiving. I'd like to be able to just paste in sent and received emails, but it seems to only support heavy-weight integration. I'll look into some of the plugins for it, or maybe write my own. I'd really like to stick with the structure of something like this that's robust, and has the possibility of adding invoicing, etc. |

I agree with Sugar CRM. Although I do not use it for my company, I know it has to be the most popular and well featured open source CRM. I'm even shocked that its open source (not sure if they have a commercial version). It seems to be a great software.

Actually, there's a bit of controversy over Sugar's status as open source, from what I hear.
Now, the must be given kudos, because Sugar Community Edition is GPLv3. yes, that's right, THREE. However, apparently, the Enterprise Edition (which isn't open) has a LOT of major features that the community edition lacks. A lot of people don't like that approach... |

tracking emails (program)
If you want to track email's of potential customers for marketing and such, I'd recommend using Atomic email hunter.. I use them and it's a great tool for finding emails in a topic for marketing and such
