i recall seeing a website were you could submit your website to search engines and the would display it higher on the list when someone searched words that matched your website.

does anyone know a website where you could do this at??

humm... I have seen sites offing to submit for a fee.
But these auto submitter can be dangerous... and most just sam to FFA sites...

What site are you tryintgto submit?

i'm not trying to submit it to any site in particular, i just want to get more people to vist my site.

How about trying out paid listings? Overture and Adwords etc.
They are vey costly but drive traffic to your sites

I don't believe that submitting your site in one way or another will affect your ranking. Your ranking for certain search queries will depend on the perceived relevancy of your content. There is in fact a cottage industry around improving this perceived relevancy called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
