Support Advice

All,

This isn't really a Web Design Help question but I thought this was as good a place as any to ask my question.

I've got a company that wants to hire me to build a series of websites for them. I've only done sites for my actual employer and never anything on the side.

So I'm trying to figure out pricing for support vs. new development. New Development is going to just be a straight $60/hr. But support??? I don't even know really what support would be. Let's say they wanted a simple HTML link added to a page...what should I charge? Or they decided they didn't like the wording of some text. Again, is that $60/hr if it takes me two minutes to fix?

If someone could give me some advise, I'd appreciate it!!!

Thanks,
MB

Yes, but charge in increments, like 15 minute minimum. It may take two minutes to fix, but it took a few minutes to talk to them on the phone, a few to write it down and/or copy/paste from an email, a few to find their FTP information again, a few to call them back and make sure it's how they want it, etc, etc. It never takes two minutes.

The alternative is to up-sell them to a site they can modify themselves. This is more up front for them, but less in the long run if they make a lot of changes, and usually less hassle for you too.
