Web site awards & cool sites

I wasn't sure what thread to post this to so I hope here is okay. Anyway, does anyone here submit their sites to awards sites or cool sites of the day type of sites?

If so, have you had any luck and is it worth doing it or is it a waste of time? Also, is there a good listing somewhere of these types of sites or do you know of any good ones first hand?

In terms of what they mean I think they mean more to those with the awards sites than they do to the average surfer. a flashing gif icon saying "web award winning" does nothing for me.

In the UK the Which Web Trader award was the most well known and eventually Which pulled the plug on it but still some good solid backward links can be built up from submitting your site to award schemes

if i had the money and award type status things were important to me i'd invest in the truste scheme. it would say more about how solid and ligitimate a site you were than a web award badge could.

If your site uses flash and lots of animated gifs, you would automatically win.

Let's not forget the Comic Sans font...

Considering that most sites I see displaying "One of Joe's Top 10 Web Sites" are usually poorly designed with no useful content I wouldn't put much faith in it. If you're a commerce site getting security validation and the like is a different ball of wax.
