Web Site Security
Hi all. I have a question about web site security. I am planning on getting my own IP address and then to create my web site. This is not going to be a HUGE site, but maybe a few hundred visits a day. I think just a regular PC server can handle this. I am just going to install Linux and run Apache as my webserver. I will also be running MySQL database as well. All web pages will be generated through Perl CGI, interacting with the back end MySQL database. This host will not be used for anything else, other then just serving web pages.
My main concern is security. I do not know much about web/network/system security and do not really know what I should know or where to start. This host will also be connected to other PC's and Linux hosts through NFS and Samba....so that is also a worry to me. If anyone could direct me to some reading materials or just some concepts I should get familiar with, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much. |

Well, you should look into what kind of connection you have. Then concentrate of settings, firewall, virusscanner etc. Check the PHP site for global settings and stuff. Yep, Linux is a swiss cheese when it comes to security so make sure you have a firewall in any case. There is enough out there, just ask Yahoo or Google.
