Website promotion

I have been working on a social recruitment site for some time now. Jobsplay.com and am trying to build up a user base. We have a reasonable number of hits everyday but no-one ever registers. I'd like to get some ideas as to how to drive more traffic to the site to entice people to register.

Well, fast acknowledgment:

Hate speech -> say it was an internal error
-> will give you some media attention

'Contests', fix some sponsors, it isn't that hard nowadays.

Film a show about some people who are seeking a job, be it a comedy or a drama - but it's best to go for the first option.

Offer unique jobs, highlight 'fun jobs', 'job of the day',...

Post results on which sector is looking for the most work (media attention if you are lucky)

The possibilities are endless.

Here are some ways:

1) Word of mouth
2) Print work (flyers, business cards, etc)
3) PPC (Google, Windows/Msn, Yahoo, and other niche sites)
4) Directories
5) Media (newspapers, classifieds, tv, radio)
6) Workshops
7) Other

I'm interested in the same thing, and looking for info on it.

You could look at the wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization

for how to get your site registered with search engines and optimized for search.

It's also apparently a good idea to cross-link your site with other sites. Is there a convention on how to approach other sites to swap links? I'd appreciate any pointers on that...

Paul

I believe that you have to do more "work" here. In order to drive traffic to your site, you have to open more doors to the potential customers to visit your site.

Which doors and how to open it? There are several ways:

1. Google advertisement through adwords
2. Optimize your site so that you can maximize the important keywords that can be crawled by major search engines.
3. Link exchanges with other sites so that you are opening a new door on other sites.
4. Media advertisement via TV, newspaper, etc
5. Affiliate referrals, etc.

Hope this helps.
