cfserver 99%
We have an issue which causes the cfserver process to spike the cpu to 99% and lock up the system. We've been having this issue for quite some time now and we have found several items that cause this to happen but no solutions that completely resolve the issue. I've recently begun digging into the issue again and there seems to be less postings about this but I haven't found anything in the release docs stating that a fix has gone out. DOes anyone know if this has been fixed in the current releases? Or, does anyone know of a fix for the 4.5 release.
OS: Windows 2000 CF: 4.5 Thanks in advance RnK |

Well, although I have no idea how you would fix it, my first reaction would be to upgrade your software. CF 7 is out, even upgrade to 6.1. As for costs, since you already have a version of it, upgrading is usually really affordable.
Perhaps that will fix all your problems |

The first culprit I would look for is an infinite loop or bottomless recursion.
But yes, 4.5 is totally outdated and over 6 years old. I'd strongly recommend upgrading as the server has become many times more powerful and stable since 4.5.

We had a problem like this is, if I remember it was something to do with us using a OBCD DB driver and coldfusion. We applied a hotfix and it fixed the problem.

"my first reaction would be to upgrade your software."
We have plans to upgrade unfortinatly though we need to go through QA on roughly 1500 apps so its a slow approval proccess. "The first culprit I would look for is an infinite loop or bottomless recursion." I have written numerous infinate loops for which the application will halt with no adverse effects on the server. Most of are apps are very simple and don't use recursion, I've checked the only one I'm aware of and it does not appear to be an issue as it will fail at anything greater then the 31st level. "it was something to do with us using a OBCD DB driver and coldfusion" We have done this in both directions (one forum had claimed it was because of an out dated version of the of the driver and another claimed it was an issue with the newest version. We found the newest version worked best but did not completely resolve the issue). Something to note, we seem to have this issue more frequently when we are running both asp and cfm on the same server. Our ne server that uses cfm for a large majority of the programming does not have this issue. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but its a thought. We also connect to both access db's and SQL server 2000. Thanks RnK |
