Coldfusion Self Hosting
HI all,
I'd like to set up my own hosting evirornment for my business site. I use XP but I want to use more open source components for the actual hosting. This is what I think I need as of now. A seperate computer box running: Linux OS MySQL Apache with CF module CFMX Anyone have any resources they can point me to so I can set this up correctly and efficiently? Or maybe you have other advice for me? Thanks for the time. Nathan |

i would suggest using windows 2003 server with a mssql server as cold fusion best runs along side windows components.
If you want to host for commercial use (aka business site) I belive you have to get a lisence for that if im not mistaken. I would just suggest going with www.uplinkearth.com they have a great hosting package for just about $5 per month. |

I have to disagree. While CF runs nicely on Windows or with SQL Server, it also runs just fine on Linux (in fact it runs faster on Linux than on Windows).

Looking at the compatibility guide the only things that are not available on the non-Windows versions of CFMX are COM object calls and ODBC (both of which are Windows-only technologies) and Crystal Reports integration. Everything else should be identical. Are you aware of anything else that is not available on Linux?

Which Linux kernel is best?
Thanks for the replies, which LInux should I use? Red Had costs mas dinero (lots of money) and there are so many other choices. One of the drawbacks of Open Source, I guess...
If you make a suggestion can you also tell me why? I've a newbie to Linux. Thanks Nathan |
