ColdFusion Server
I am looking to integrate ColdFusion with our servers. I called Macromedia and spoke to a rep who seemed quite confused with my request. Basically, do I have to install the actual ColdFusion software itself per server or is there a special CF software to install on the server to accept coldfusion format?

ColdFusion MX is an application server engine that runs on top of a J2EE server like JRun, Websphere, etc. CFMX 6.1 includes JRun 4 if you want to use that. You need to install CFMX on each server that you want to handle requests for ColdFusion templates. You typically will also need web server software like IIS or Apache running on the CF box, to handle incoming HTTP requests and forward them to the CF engine.

Basically, yes, there is server-side software that you must install in order to use ColdFusion.

Ok what is the name of the actual server-side software? I already have Apache / RedHat Linux installed and running.

Not to try and confuse you, but what kiteless is saying is that you can install ColdFusion MX 6.1.

If your organization is strapped for cash, then you can try New Atlanta's Blue Dragon, it'll process CFML, but with limited capabilities.
