Instant Messaging
Hello Everyone: I am trying to develop an instant messaging application for my my site; but I don't seem to know how to start. I would like to know where to find good cfml tutorials for this matter. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks, machito |

I don't know that you can actually create one using CF alone because it wouldn't be very "instant".
You'll need to use either a Java applet or Flash. There are lots of tutorials/free programs for that. |

I have the book REALITY MACROMEDIA COLDFUSION MX - INTRANETS & CONTENT MANAGEMENT By Ben Forta. There is a chapter about creating a message board, chat system and instant messaging, but it does not do a good job explaining the topic. Thus it is dificult to follow. Do anyone know any other book?

there are several resources that lets you download a messaging board. (forum application)
http://www.cfcode.com/ http://www.freecoldfusionapplications.com/download_details.cfm?download_id=4 there are some more. most of them are encrypted and will charge you if you want to get the open source. i am interested if there is a way to create IM with cold fusion. if you get any info, please update me.... thanks |

if you want to make it yourself, i would suggest first planning out the architecture of it, in fact you should do that before making any application. it will let you know exactly what you need before hand and you cn work out alot of problems before hand like that. if you need anymore help please post again.

I have decided to write the instant message application myself. I will let you know the result. Meanwhile, I am still looking for other solutions.

Just an idea, but you can go to www.easycfm.com and look up the chatroom application, in the tutorials section. At that point, you could use thier codebase and modify it to your liking. |
