Newbie question - CFMX and where it should be installed

Hey guys,

Just getting started with CF and I have a question about servers.

Does CF HAVE to be installed on an http (specifically IIS)server or can it reside on a different server NOT running IIS ?

Here is the scenario - we will be hosting the regular html pages on one server (running IIS) and the CF pages on a different server. The CF server will not have IIS on it - just CF and the DB (SQL 2000). Does the CF server also need to have IIS running on it or can CF be installed alone with just the db.

If CF can run without IIS, how do we tell the CF pages to process?

I know that we can put just the DB on a server and connect to it through the network, but I was always under the impression that CF had to be installed on the same server as your web hosting server.

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

The short answer is yes, you can have a separate server running CFMX. I have not done this before, but I know it is possible. You should be able to get free installation support for your CFMX license. Additional info should be in the livedocs or at the installation support page:
