ColdFusion Data Source
Hi Fellow Coldfusionites !!
I am very new to ColdFusion. I tested my Coldfusion app in my local server where I was using a datasource say xxx . Now after uploading the .CFM files to the hosting server I am in a great problem as I dont know how to access the Administrator panel to set up the data source. Please advise.

Coldfusion administrator should be in start > programs > macromedia > macromedia coldfusion mx > administrator.
This should take you to the login of administrator.

If you are on a shared server you will almost certainly NOT have access to the CF administrator interface, for obvious security reasons. You'll have to go through your hosting provider's control panel or email their support people to have them set up a datasource for you.

Thanks for your reply. I guessed the same also. We had to email the server admin to fix a datasource for us and I hope he does it quickly. But this is surely a time consuming and cumbersome process. I was thinking if there is an easy way. The control panel provided by the hosting company lets me create a ODBC connection to my MA SQL DB. Is it of any use with the ColdFusion App i.e. Can I use the ODBC connection with the coldfusion app the way we do in ASP ?

Yes I believe you should be able to use the same ODBC datasource name in CF.

Hi kiteless !!
when I am using CF datasource named say xyz while quering we write:
<cfquery name="abc" datasource="xyz">
select * from dummy_table
How do you do the same query with ODBC connection?

As far as I know, any ODBC connection you create in the CF administrator is actually created as a system ODBC datasource. So if you have an ODBC datasource named "xyz" I think you should be able to use "xyz" and the dsn name in your cfquery tag.

Try to access : http://<yourwebsite.com or IP>/cfide/administrator/index.cfm or ask your ISP to create a datasource for you....
