Adding new HDDs to a RAID5 (UNIX)

Hi all,
I would like to add 3 more hard disks to my existing RAID5 array on my unix server. Could I know is a total of 9 disks considered too much for an IBM F80 to take? Will it tax the power supply to the max? In such a case, I will need backup the VG, break the RAID5 of the VG, add the disks, reconfigure the RAID then the VG right?

Thanks
