AMD Athlon XP Overclocking w/ Stock Fans
Hey guys,
From what I've heard prior to my recent purchase of a AMD Athlon XP 2500+, AMD CPUs are able to be overclocked alot, easily and with stability. I didn't know how to overclock my CPU antil about 5 minutes ago, when I was playing around with a setting in the BIOS, a frequency raning from 166Mhz up to 199Mhz, when I changed it, the CPU speed changed. My system wouldnt display ANYTHING at 199Mhz, so I decided, move up in increments of 5/10Mhz, 170Mhz, reads as 2600+, 175Mhz, still 2600+, 185Mhz, reads as "AMD Athlon XP 2035Mhz" loads Windows XP, the restars suddenly. Can somebody with a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ or 2600+ and using a stock fan, please tell me what speed I can set my CPU with a stock fan, I wont check this thread for about 18-24 Hours, so I dont mind if you take your time. Thanks in advance Nic Italiano |

The max oc will vary. It depends on your chip, motherboard, ambient temperature, and a good dose of luck. If you're getting unstable, you can try increasing the Vcore a bit.
If you're really interested in OC'ing though, you'll need a better heat sink and fan, stock just won't cut it ![]()

I agree, I use a Cooler master Aero to overclock my CPU, stock one will not cut it for long, good luck with it as it's very much trail and error.
