blue Vertical Line across a LCD
Hi Guys....I'm kinda stuck.. I have a buddies laptop and the screen has a vertical blue line in it that won't go away.. I'm pretty sure its not software related.. its there as soon as the screen turns on ....
It has onboard graphics.. It shares the system memory.. Any idea what it might be and what I might have to replace on it? when it comes to hardware I'm somewhat weak.. Any idea how i can even start to trouble shoot this? as its onboard graphics I can't even check the vid card... ![]() |

(~~;?(Helpless! A lot of people should just live with it.)
There's no way other than replacing whole LCD. Actually this is the destiny of LCD and often it has a few of dots gone away. And the maker claims it to be tolerance level. |

You know I kinda came to the same conclusion myself but the only thing that is getting me is this... Why from the top of the screen all the way to the bottom? I've seem them where a few pixels will go but not all in a straight line from top to bottom... THanks G |

Hm... well I think it could also be the graphics. I had an olnine friend who's graphics card memory overheated and was "shadowed" (or whatever he called it). He gave me a screen shot and it wasn't a pretty site at all... Patches everywhere on the screen and shadows of old windows that might even of been closed hours ago...
Is that laptop still in the waranty period? Cuz tell your buddy he aint paying for crap for the fixing... Like a few dead pixels is acceptable but a whole line? Unnacceptable and probably very anoying, disutrbing and humiliating if someone else sees the laptop... Tell your friend to be passively agressive with the tech support to get fixed free or good deal... That's the only attitude to save money and time... ![]() |

(^^;?(I don't know the correct reason.)
But it seems that dots disappearance is produced in factory condition mostly due to interfusion of dust or inpurity, and line one would be caused by conducting wire defect. P.S. Yeah, if you can find same typed LCD in used shops, replacement is possible, but need somewhat dexterity. Usually One maniac in a class. A(Oo;? |

Hey guys thanks for your help.. I'm not sure at this momment.. First off I'm here in Canada... My gf is from Brazil and these guys are over here on student visa's.. The laptop is from Brazil.. they won't be going back for a year from now.. so Warrenty apparenlty is outta the question.. However.. If its a matter of the pixels being burnt out then i don't care.. But if its something else.. something we can fix then I want to.. But as it is I'm going to have to go with the burnt pixels theory.. even tho its a line from top to bottom.. straight through.. |

If not dots defect, it always lines. It is often the case. One of my old used laptop has completely same condition as your's. The people who make use of used PC know this well.
I have took several of them into pieces, A(oo;(Very difficult just to do it.), after I bought them at trifling cost in order to take parts. Along the way, also I analyzed LCD, then took out some parts, inverter or back-light, basic wiring instruments. LCD itself was broken, then I took it off and into pieces by halfly force. This was very precise and complexly layered. Even if it is not impossible, ordinary skill cannot fix that part. I have not heard of its success, but have done of success of replacement of back-light and whole LCD. For my part, I don't want to fiddle with LCD if possible any more. |
