Boot freezes
I have a blank computer, no OS installed. My motherboard is a PcChips M-938LU. It detects all of the IDE devices, (Primary master, Secondary Master and slave), Then halts.
The halt comes right before the system configuration summary. I cannot get to the BIOS because of this halt, however, if I clear the CMOS, it will tell me there is an error with the configuration before detecting the IDE devices and bring me directly to setup. Thanks, Alex klaser-at-klaser-dot-net |

the first thing i would check would be your beep codes, check out your main board's maunal and see what the different beeps mean. then come back and tell us what you find out from there and what the error is according to the maunal.

When I turn it on, it shows the video card model for a moment.
nVidia GeForce 4 MX 440 128mb blah blah blah Then it beeps once, and shows the BIOS start up screen. (The one with the energy star logo). Thats why it detects the IDE devices, and freezes. There are no further beeps or messages. |

(^^;?(How come does it become That's why? )
Do you have no floppy, no CD, What about Power Supply potential etc.? Put what you have done into order. And exact message and event are required without any modifications as far as possible. |

Well, as for the POST and beep codes, everything seems to be working perfectly. Explain the "freeze." What, if anything, can you see on the screen? Then, try booting the PC while systematicly disconnecting devices, start with your CD-ROMs and then floppy device, essentially all non-crucial devices; so leave your Hard Drive, Keyboard, Mouse, PSU, Mainboard, and if you DO NOT have onboard video, your video card. If you DO have onboard Video, and you are using a PCI/AGP video card, unplug that last and try the onboard video. Let us know what you did, and what happened for each step.

Sorry for the late responce, I've gotten passed that startup screen, but I've run into another problem. On the system status screen (Where it shows all of the compents) it says, Searching for boot record from CDROM.. then the cdrom spins up, and it says OK (There is a windows xp disc in there), then it just halts after that. I've tried booting from a floppy, several different OS's (Slackware, 98, xp, 2000), and they all stop right there.
Here are two pictures of the problem: Error pic 1 (I chose CDROM, I have a windows XP disc in it) and Error pic 2 |

Remove IDE and DVD-ROM, and try to boot by floppy.
Your IRQ settings probably conflicted. Try CMOS clear by jumper, see your manual. |

I removed the DVD drive, still stalls.

Make it minimum, remove all unnecessary peripherals in order to boot. Even surplus memories.
This is because of eliminating other troubles, mainly for power shortage or instability. If it fails, clear CMOS. (^^;?(Although the setting may be default?) |

Have you tried replacing the RAM?

System summary keeps the same? Did it recognized minimum configuration correctly? Floppy is read? |

System summary is the same, its down to the minimum <--(^^;(I can't diagnoze it from this, be more descriptive and exact.)
What I meant is that if you remove the ide etc., system configuration must chage, it shouldn't include ide or CD. But probably you're saying, It has displayed minimum configuration correctly, haven't it? IRQ 10 has still been assigned to multiple devices? How did you cleared CMOS? |

I cleared the CMOS by using the clear jumper, it tells me to then go to setup after boot. I turned off everything, and here is the new system configuation screen Error 3 |
