Boot Yes / Reboot NO
I am having an interesting problem with an old gateway sc300. Yeah, it's a PII, but everyone should have a good ole Win98 machine laying around just in case, right?
Here's the deal. If you turn this computer on (if it hasn't been touched in awhile) it boots nicely, runs smooth and generally runs good.
However, if you turn it off and try to restart, the fans come on and that's about it. No BIOS Post. No Video Check. Nothing. But, if you unplug the machine, let it set a few minutes and replug it, it works again! Crazy.
So I figured if I just switched the power supply off and back on I would get the same effect. Wrong. In order for it to work, I have to either unplug or let it set for an hour or so.
Any ideas on this? (besides the obvious -ie 'throw it away and buy something built in the last 5 years'(
