Question Can I upgrade a Dell Optiplex P2 350Mhz to P3 500Mhz?

I bought a Dell Optiplex P2 350Mhz last year which is running fine,
A friend of mine gave me a P3 500Mhz processor with the same cooling fins .
I replace the P2 for the P3 but the following message showed up :"no timer tick interrupt"
What does this mean?

I switch back to the P2 350Mhz with no problems
Do I need to do something else , or just the mobo doesn't support the P3 500Mhz?

Hi alcar71,

You may have to change the clock multiplier (usually jumpers) on your motherboard to reflect the new CPU speed. You might want to pop open the case and google your motherboard make and model number to locate a manual for it. The numbers are usually visable on the top of the motherboard.

Send a message via ICQ to Keston.E Send a message via AIM to Keston.E Send a message via MSN to Keston.E Send a message via Yahoo to Keston.E
Also make sure that your mobo can support the fsb and the full cpu speed other wise you will be an sitting duck.
