Smile CDrom drive issue, claim's Audio disc instead of Data

Hi there
Got a problem with a system here with windows 98 se. The cdrom drive claims to have an audio disc inserted with one track when in fact it is a genuine data disc. Have changed the cdrom but problem persists. Any ideas anyone?

Hey m8,
I got the same prob with my Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM, the 1st CD WIn sees in it is what Windows always reads the drive as having, even if I eject the CD, two ways to get around it. 1) boot with NO cd, then put it in. or 2) My Computer > right click on ur drive and go open, which will display the contents of the CD in the windows, from there u can run the AutoRun app on the CD if there is one.

Dont know what causes the error, guess well just have to wait for WinXP's Service Pack2 to see if its fixed. Must be windows buffering the AutoRun files of the first CD, but no re-newing them, making it think the same CD is still in there...or something....Im not too great at how Windows works...

Hope that can help

Nic Italiano

You could also see if there's a firmware update for your drive, which might help.

(^^;?(It would be a burned CD? Some burner regard data as track data.)

If you see some image file by "IsoBuster", you would find same appearance.

I think to get around that issue, you can right-click the CD icon and click "explore"
