Unhappy Computer Starting Problems

Ok I looked at other posts with a similar problem but wish to be completely sure of whats going on.

Last night I experienced my computer stuttering (Sound & Display) at random times. This could be anything up to 10 minutes.
I thought nothing of it and continued on.

Anyway, upon starting up the computer the next morning, nothing would happen. The power LED would briefly turn on, then go off again. The same applies to the fans. However the RAM LED on the motherboard remains on.

My Specs:
------------------------------
Pentium 2.4Ghz
GA-8PE667 Ultra Motherboard
512MB Ram
Geforce 4 Ti4600 128MB

Now i'm seriously hoping that perhaps this is just the power unit. However from other posts, it may indicate that my processor and motherboard could be dead.
Does the stuttering indicate which of these it's most likely to be?

I will try playing around and swap some of the components with the other computer tomorrow, when I have time.

Thanks in advance
Chris

whats the PSU, thats the hardest working part of the computer and yet really underrated. I'm betting on that, though i have had a Motherboard that did the same thing.

Ok the PSU from what I can see (Haven't been able to have a good look yet):
Mercury 230V Model:KOB AP 4300X CE

Fingers crossed it is the PSU. I will attempt to use another tomorrow night. There any better PSU's out there?

Thanks for your help.

yes, I have an antec one. OCZ makes a good one. You can get a good one for 40-60, and it will last you a long time.

Thanks for the suggestion. Replacing the PSU will be the first thing I'll try. I'll keep you informed and how things go.

Cheers

Woohoo! I scabbed the PSU from the other computer, et voila! It works!
This is a huge relief for me, I didn't really wanna fork out money for a new motherboard. Especially as I just spent £200 on a new graphics card (The day before the damn PSU buggered up)

Everything seems to be running fine at the moment. Had a crash earlier when I turnt my speaker system up too loud...weird. Apart from that, this old girl is still rolling.

Thanks for all your help. I will replace the PSU with a better make when I get round to it.

Till next time and thanks again
Chris
