CPU Fan Not Cooling

As I use my computer under high stress, the processor temperature rises rapidly – yet, the CPU fan does not increase in RPM as the temps rise. I am running a P4 3.06 – idle temp is around 47c however, with 5 minutes of playing a game (or something requiring substantial processing power) I am looking at 75c.

However, the CPU fan remains at a constant 3200 RPM. It has the ability to run at 5000 RPM. Is there any way of correcting this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you sure the cpu fan speed should change automatically? What type of mobo/cpu/cooling do you have?

Make sure you have a thermal cooling paste on your heatsink/fan touching your processor. Check to see if there are also a lot of cables on top of the processor fan, disrupting the airflow.
