Custom Laptops
I'm looking for a laptop computer to upgrade my old Dell machine to. I've heard that there is a custom "white box" laptops on the market. Prices look good but I'm little bit anxious about buying this stuff. Does anybody have an experience working with non-brand laptops? I've found a lot of CPU options at Leadcomp. I never handled non-Intel laptops before, so I also need an advice about alternative CPU choices, especially new AMD Athlon 64.

I've removed the links in your posts, too much like spamming/ads for my taste.
The athlon64 is a great cpu, very powerful. You'll need a more specific question to get more info though.

Anyway, to be more specific, my interest is power consumption and reliability features of course, as it is critical especially for laptops. I post another link to a particular product that I'm interesting in, this is a custom laptop that carry Athlon 64 CPU (no brands available yet?). The case of that laptop is much like other custom laptop's with different CPUs, and my question is does anybody work with such or similar laptops and how good they are in use? The seller tell me of course that the laptop itself is awesome but also I need 3rd independent opinion. |

Looks like it can be configured to be quite powerful. However, you might want to check out eMachines, they have an Athlon64 laptop that is significantly cheaper than that one. Two friends have the eMachines laptop and love it.
Battery life is only average (~2-2.5 hours), the 64 does use quite a bit of power. Laptops like that are really desktop replacements, and you'd probably use it plugged in most often. If portability and long battery life are priorities, look at Centrino ultraportables. If you do want a desktop-replacement type laptop, the Athlon64 is a very good choice. |
