Hey. so my ~5 year old laptop wont boot up. I have a compaq armada m700. with the battrery in it doesnt work at all, but with the battery out i get some lights, but noothing on the screen. I took it apart and all. All i had in was the mobo cpu and screen, and i got to the bios then it shut down again. cant get theree again. It seem sthat that one time that i got the bios the cpu fan was on, and now the fan turns on but then dies after 5 sec. the HDD works, and we got all the data off of it, but i think the laptops fried. anny suggestions? thanks

I think you can call tech support, they should support their products, even if their old.
    Slash should link to SlashDot

wow... intrestingly enough i stripped the laptop of everything, ecept the mobo (duh) the screen, some ram and the HDD and it worked. So last night around 2 i put it back together, and it is fully functioning. In fact im using it to write this right now. I have no idea how it got fixed. I just took it apart and put ti back togther. very intresting.

possibly a PSU/Battery issue. I'd try getting a new battery for it first, especially if you've been using the same battery for 5 years.
Dear God. What is it like in your funny little brains? It must be so boring.

Whenever I boot mine, half the time the screen will just blank, and I have to keep turning the power off, then rebooting and hoping it will come on. That, or if it's in windows and does it, I have to hibernate it and when it comes back up it usually works. Could have something to do with that starbucks I spilled in it a few years ago, still smells like burnt coffee when it first boots.

i was thinking a PSU issue. Its not a battery issue though, because i have 2 of them.

After taking the whole thing apart i didnt see the motherboard battery. Anyone know where it might be?

Theres a hardware conflict. You get a glimpse of a blue screen, and then it restarts i sugest you reinstall the OS.

Probably a driver has got damaged somewhere, or one of the key system files. You might want to reinstall again.
