When I put a DVD/CD disc in my drive, nothing shows up in My Computer

Hi, when I place a CD or a DVD into my drive, nothing shows up in My Computer, but I can hear it run when I first place it in, because it makes that noise.

I want to open the disc, but I can't see were to open it as its not showing in My Computer.

I also have an iPod and when I plud that in with the USB, that doesnt even show in My Computer, but shows in iTunes.

I am using Windows Vista, anyone know how I can fix this

    Thanks

Do you have more than one dvd drive ? If that is the case, does the second one work ?

Since when do you have this problem ?

Yes both in the device manager and on my computer.

Have you installed any update recently? Sometimes installing windows updates can cause drivers to stop functioning properly

Can bios see your cd-drive(s)? If not that would point to a controller error. Try doing this as well.

What brand of PC do you have? When you boot up your PC you need to enter "setup". You should see (it only lasts a second) an option to hit a "F" key (i.e., F2, F1, sometimes you hit the delete button). Enter Setup (aka BIOS) and look under IDE configuration or something to that name. It will list your drives. Try the cdromfix first.
