DVD-RAM drive problem - please help!
Hi guys, I hope some of you might be able to help me with a problem with my Matsu****a DVD-RAM UJ-25S drive in a Acer Ferrari 3400 with XP SP2.
I was (stupidly) going through a pile of old CDRs I burnt years ago on a Win98 machine. When I inserted one of them, a message flashed up saying the disk was in a certain format (I can't remember what unfortunately), perhaps something like UPDR or UPDS or something? It said it needed to install something to be able to read the disk, and I clicked YES. A DOS box opened up and some commands executed, then the computer restarted. When it got back into Windows the computer crashed (blue screen). Upon rebooting, the DVD drive now recognised all disks as being blank! I figured I had installed an incompatible driver or something? I have tried uninstalling the driver. When the computer reboots, the drive appears to work properly. However, later the same problem occurs. Also, if I put a DVD in after playing music CDs, it sometimes crashes the computer - a blue screen flashes up but is gone so quickly I can't read it!
For your info, it says the driver version is 5.1.2535.0
I hope i haven't flashed my drive without meaning to or something! I have tried rolling back the driver but it says none are available. Also, the fact that the drive can be made to work by uninstalling the driver and rebooting makes me loathe to try anything drasticlike using the recovery CD.
Anyone help?
Cheers
