    Problem with DVD writer

I have a NEC2500 DVD writer and just recently had problems with it. For some reason, it's aborting all of my writing to the DVD's but will let me write to CD's. I switched my batch of DVD's recently to TDK 16x and am wondering if this is truly the problem. Or, can something happen to the writer where it doesn't recognize the DVD's anymore? I can actually play DVD's still. When I used Nero once, it gave an error message about "cannot launch....." something. I don't remember it and can't recreate it.

    Hope somebody can help.

You said you recently switched your batch of DVD's. I'd say try using another brand and see if you still receive the problems. I've had bad DVD's before ranging from an entire spindle, to like every other DVD. I've also had some media that would burn fine in one dvd burner, but not another. If you were able to burn fine with a previous batch, I'd say try a similar dvd that worked fine.

Chances are that if your dvd burner plays dvds and can still burn (even though it's cd's), it's probably something to do with the media.

    • Xenus agrees : I've had cases where a particular brand will not read/write, not evena specific spidle.

For some reason, it's only showing it as a CD drive on my computer. Could it be a configuration problem? I just bought some Fujifilm DVD-R's and they don't work too. I wonder if I can delete it and reinstall the drivers?

Win XP shouldn't require any drivers. Go ahead and try another burn, and paste back the exact error message.

Also, you may want to see if there are any firmware updates for the drive.

It says burn process failed. Yet, if I use a CD-R, it will work.

Is this computer a prebuilt, or one you had built yourself? Do you know what type of motherboard? I noticed that there seem to be some problems with the nforce2 motherboard and the burner you have.

It's a standard Dell Dimension 2400. All preassembled and built in video card. Remember, I had no problems before. I actually upgraded my firmware and now it works with the TDK brand. But the Fujifilm doesn't work right now. Normally that should. Here is a copy of the error message.

Disable disc-at-once and then try. It seems that the error log shows it terminating the burn process when it tries to burn disc-at-once.

If making a data DVD, after clicking on burn, one of the options should be for disc-at-once. Although, it may be greyed out because it's nero's preferred method. I would suggest to see if you can change it... if not, try another burning program to see if you have problems.

Actually... is the problem only with bin and cues? Or with data as well? Try doing a data cd if you already haven't. Is it only with 1 particular bin/cue, or any?

It's with anything. Data, movie backups, pictures, movie maker videos, etc. I read disc-at-once is related to overburn? So, if I don't see disc-at-once, should I not allow overburn then? Will test it out right now.

Yeah, it's greyed out. So, what can I do besides changing programs and getting a new spindle of DVD's? I thought Fujifilm were decent too.
