External Hard Drive Stuck In 'Safe To Remove Mode'

Hey y'all, like the title says, My External hard drive is Stuck in 'safe to remove mode' and wont show up or be detected on any computer.

Its a 400GB Seagate, 16MB cache, connects through USB and I'm running windows XP. It powers up and everything, and I can hear it running, but it isn't detected on any computer. So I cant even uninstall or reinstall the drivers.

It just randomly started doing this one day. I saw an error once that told me the problem was that It was stuck in 'safe to remove' mode but I cant seem to find it anymore. It told me to unplug it, reboot and plug it in again but that doesn't work.

Maybe I can reformat it? But then again I don't know how to do that either.

If you need to know anything else, let me know.

    (^^;?(Ah, all USBs are unreliable.)

If you can't see the drive even from Computer Management, Delete all USB drivers as a whole in Device Manage and try to re-recognize the USB.

Moreover, as USB connection itself is affected by CPU condition, you had better reconsider whole PC performance.

You should still be able to re-install the drivers even although it isn't detected. Generally, you should always install the vendors drivers before attaching any USB device otherwise Windows trys to find it's own drivers for the device.

    srry for the double post.

    Updated update:

I took the HD out and plugged it into the comp. like a regular HD and it works fine. It seems that its just the external case that is stuck in safe to remove mode. Its not being recognized. so, my computer and the HD are fine i guess its just the case.

Did you try it connected through a different USB port ?

Do you intend on solving this problem, or are you happy enough to have the drive installed internally ?

Did you try pluggining it in directly to the board and not though a "front" port?

Can you tell me how to do that?
I have an I/O Magic external hard drive that won't mount
either. Is there a jumper to make it a slave drive or what?

I have tried it in 3 computers and it still just keeps
    blinking an nothing else.
