Extra Hard drive not recognised.
I'm installing a 4 gig HD in a friends computer (currently has a 1gig!!) the problem is, that although th HD has been pre-installed with Win ME, the computer doesnt recognise its there. If i haev botyh the 1gig and 4gig installed thenn it boots from the 1 gig but still wont detect the 4 gig, I have tried to configure thru bios with no luck.
Any ideas?

Do you have your jumpers set right? Also, try formatting it first, rather than having windows on it. You don't need the OS on the second drive, and that might be causing a problem.

if you look at the back of the drive there is a few pins that are used to set the drives to master/slave. you will want to set the new disk to be a slave and make sure the current disk is set as master. the jumper settings should be shown somewhere on the disk.
also make sure you have the IDE cables the right way too. some older systems dont have little bumps and stuff to stop you putting a drive on upside down. Also if it is an old computer you may find it wont support a drive as big as 4 gig. I dont thing win95 supported more than 2.5gig. |
