F1 error afer new dvd drive fitted and restart after shutdown

Hi, sorry if this is not in the correct place, mods please move if not.

Since an engineer replaced a faulty DVD drive under warranty the computer halts on F1 error, there are too many entries in the device manager and I wonder if the entry was removed for the faulty drive.

The warranty has now expired, day after the drive was fitted, I assume I need to delete several entries but am not sure which ones.

I also have the problem now, when shutdown, it does for 5 seconds or so before restarting itself. The system is a 3.4 Intel, Asus P5GDC deluxe running XP home.

Does the machine boot into Windows ? Did it boot at all after the drive was fitted or did you receive it back from the 'engineer' in a non-working condition ?

Also, what exactly do you mean by F1 error ?

Hi, the engineer came to the house as an extended at home warranty was bought. After the drive was fitted whenever it was switched on it came up with the following, I can't attach the image yet as I'm too new

Quote:
PC-3200 Dual Channel Interleaved
Checking NVRAM
Initializing USB Controllers .. Done
1024MB OK
USB Device(s): 1 Keyboard, 1 Mouse
Auto-Detecting Pri Master..IDE Hard Disk
Auto-Detecting Pri Slave..ATAPI CD-ROM
Auto-Detecting Pri Master..ATAPI CD-ROM

Pri Master: Maxtor 7Y250M0 YA511W0
Ultra DMA Mode-5 , S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status OK

Pri Slave: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S230M SB01
Ultra DMA Mode-5

3rd Master: SONY CD-RW CRX230ED 4YS1
Ultra DMA Mide-2

Auto-detecting USB Nass Storage Devices..
00 USB mass storage devices found and configured

Third Slave Drive – ATAPI Incompatible
Press F1 to Resume..

After F1 was pressed Windows loaded normally.

I did forget to say that now the restarting has began it was only on one or two accounts in the beginning but now it is on all four accounts. The only way to turn off the computer now is by the switch on the bac.

Thanks for your help.
