Question Firewire card killing internet connection

I have had this problem for a while but am just getting back to it. I am trying to install a firewire card into my Windows XP Pro maching so I can do some digital video downloading.

When I install the card, all seems to go fine. The camera interface works fine. However, my DSL connection to the internet is blocked. Nor can I access, my e-mail account.

I have read many other accounts of similar problems, but have not seen a solution. The only post I ran accross (but cannot find it now) suggested that the problem lies in the fact that XP Pro sets up the firewire card as a networking port, running along side my ethenet connection. This post offered a siggestion for renaming an internal driver file so the networking component of the firewire card would not be activated.

Simply disabling the firewire network does not seem to solve the problem. Has anyone had this problem and discovered a solution that will keep me from removing the forewire card and restoring my system to get my internet connection back?

Thanks!!!!
