Formatting a used HD? Formatting and making a slave of a second hand HD???

Hey Folks,

At work the boss is kind of cheap. Thanks to this forum, and a little electrical, mechanical and soldering work by myself, I was able to to build a network on 2 comps off a CAT 6 ethernet cable, direct connect. My question now is: I want to put an HD in a comp with 10 GIG capacity, while the master is 3 GIG. I want to format the slave, for it has win 98 on it, and I want it as slave, not as second OS. Is there a way I can format the HD (the slave), before I install it, and if not, when I install it, how can I format it without killing the master?

Gerry

Cool

Will do Monday.
I am kind of new to this. I'm an Auto-CAD software expert, but when it comes to hardware devices and drivers, you got me. Anyway, thank you. I will connect it as slave and than boot XP and when the drives come up on.... I'll try to format it. The only thing I worried about is if it asked me if, or if it would run the slave OS on start up.

...one man... 300 Mhz... to 256 RAM... CDR... network, XP and now a slave HD... Thanks folks.... With out you'll I'd still be programming BASIC on a Commodor 64... LMAO!

It should work. If the O/S gives you problems, go to the Hard drive vendor's website and download their boot up/setup program, copy it to a floppy. Take out the master drive and install the slave. Boot from the floppy and format the hard drive. Then reinstall the master.
