I recently purchased a gateway desktop and found out that the gateway sales person I talked to lied about many details about my new computer. When I got my new computer in the mail I set it up and then started to use it. After about 20 days I realized it was not right for me. I called gateway and then was notified that I could not return it!!! Now I am stuck with a bad, slow computer. If you are looking for a new computer you should get a Mac or a Dell. If you NEED a pc then go with dell. If you are open to try somrthing new, and cool go with mac. |

I think Gateway just closed all their retail stores. I was in the store about 6 months ago and it was pathetic. They had no stock and very lame displays. There was a time when Gateway and Dell were neck and neck. Back when 486s first came out and cost $2500 Gateway was one of the top mail order companies. Sad to see them fall so far.
Post your system's specs and maybe someone here can help you speed things up. |

Where I work, almost all of what we have are Gateways. I haven't had any huge problems with them (except some that came with Windows ME).
I had a Dell a couple weeks ago, and it looked like the power supply was fubar, but I called Dell just in case. They asked me to reseat the processor, and when I got the heatsink off-THUNK!--the processord just fell off the board. Hardly even in the socket.

I beg to differ. I am not sure of the motive of the originating post and the poster did not (as mentioned) include any specs, the model, or cite the specific problem.
The gripe "not for me" and "slow" ... slow is ambiguous at best and "not for me" ... well, sushi is not for me but I won't deny that millions of people enjoy it! Now I build my own desktops, and I did order a Dell for my recent laptop acquisition but I have bought several Gateway computers and have had no problems. They are old, and by today's standards are indeed slow (being years old by now) but they were well priced, ran efficiently, were not overly encumbered by needless software and they all still work today. None of them ever needed any service whatsoever. To come here and assert any company is bad with the provided justification is poor judgment. |

What was the problem? Lied how? What are your system specs, and what did you expect it to do?
