Gateway Power Supply Problem Maybe??

I'm helping a friend figure out what's going on with his machine...and I want to be able to tell him to right information.

The machine will not power on and only gives an amber (orange) color on the power button (instead of the normal green). None of the CD Drives power up (no lights) and the fan does not turn (from what he tells me). I figure it's a power supply problem in that the power supply is not providing sufficient volts to run the computer. Just wanted to get someone's elses opinion...I've never delt with a Gateway.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Before you actually replace the power supply, check some other things first:
1. Wall socket
2. Power strip/surge protector
3. Power cable
4. On the back of the computer, where the power cable plugs into, is the red switch set to 115? It should be 115.
5. Make sure that the power cable is not connected to a regular extension cord. Power cable must plug directly into a surge protector that is not daisy-chained to another power strip, surge protector, or normal (household) extension cord. Surge protector must be directly plugged into wall socket.

If none of the above solve the problem, open up the case and ensure that all power connections are secure. Also check ALL other components' connections. Any loose connections can cause problems for you.

If everything is secure and the problem persists, replace the power supply.
