Good Or bad computer setup??
alright. im thinking about building my dad a new computer to replace his old one. what do you think of this setup:
(keep in mind this is for very light gaming like old games. and for internet use along with songs and everything.) Motherboard: Biostar M7VIQ Socket-A. Supports CPU's With 266MHz FSB. Supports 266MHz (PC2100) DDR Ram up to 2GB 3 PCI Slots 1 AGP Slot 1 CNR Slot built in Savage4 2D/3D video card built in LAN integrated audio AC97 2.1 and also supports up to 4 IDE devices CPU:Amd Athlon XP 2000+ (1.67GHz) Socket A 512 L1 Cache Harddrive: Im not sure of a harddrive yet. But I plan to go with one with an 8MB cache and runs at 7200RPM's and about 40GB i already have an extra case i accidently double ordered and never sent back. and a phillips cr-rw 52x drive. oh and i plan to go with 512MB Corsair or Crucial Memory |

sounds good and cheap. nothing wrong with it, and seems to fit the bill for its intended application.

I personally don't like biostar boards, but it looks decent.
You won't need expensive RAM, don't get Corsair XMS or something like that. Overall, a good looking budget computer.

I haven't used them personally (Abit
) but I have heard many stories online of people who had biostar boards die on them after relatively short lengths of time (4-6 months). They just don't have a very good reputation, particularly among enthusiasts. This is second hand info, so make of it what you will. I would personally prefer a low cost abit or asus board to a low cost biostar or pcchips board. |

ok, that sounds good, i have a couple buddies who have them too, 3 boards between 2 guys, my one friend had one die (we think) but hasn't had problems in a couple years. so perhaps they just have a problem letting scrap leave their plant... oh well, thanks for the added opinions of Biostar. I am hooked on ASUS right now, and am very happy with them.
