My OS is win98. When I'm trying to upgrade it to winXP, I got a message that 'your C drive has some problem, and could not fix it'. Then I tried to install XP on D drive, I got the same message. Can any one help me to fix this problem. I can't install some other softwares also becasue of this problem. When I'm trying to install such softwares, the compueter get shut down.

(^^;?(It's natural.)
Install process check the devices of avail first, because it may not load the correct drivers for installation. If you remove the present C:, you may be able to install. However I reccomend you diagnose Both of your drives by the utility from HDD makers. |

(^^;??(Repartition can't repair the disk.)
It simply delete the compartment information and put new one. Your HDD would need physical level diagnose, and you must low-level format it, if necessary. Download powermax from Maxtor or its replace. |

My HDD is Seagate. I downloaded the Seagate Disk Wizard. When I try to 'full diagnose' the HDD, after a few seconds, it shows an error message like some bad clusters are there and goes shut down the system. When try to SCANDISK in DOS, I got an error message that LBA is not correctly configured. But my configuration is all correct.

LBA means logical block adressing, the new IDE standard, it assign serial numbers to all sectors. Then scandisk is saying the roughly same thing.
Now you must phisical format it by all means. If it fails, try another formatter, powermax, IBM drive fitness etc. If you fail in all these, give up the HDD. You can use it for a while, but will be unrecognized in time all of a sudden. |
