Hi, have a 40gb drive in my 533mhz older machine. Been working fine for AGES. (Bios does recognize it). However, once I turned my pc on, it does NOT pick up the drive. I tried it on 2 other pc's, only to do the same. It will NOT register at all in any pc's bios. Why the sudden dropout?

PS: No settings were changed or programs installed. I am not connected to the internet, so unlikely it's a virus.

If the BIOS recognizes the drive, but cannot be accessed with FDISK the drive has failed. You can confirm this by downloading hard drive test software provided by the manufacturer (usually located the manufacturer's web site). If the manufacurer's test software doesn't recognize the drive (provided the drive is connected to an internal IDE bus, and you read the instructions) it's definetly bad.
