Question hard drive interferes with sound

Hi
I bought a WesternDigital 200 gig hard drive and when i installed it I had already prblems (137gig limit), Now i have installed it (2 100 gig partitioned) and it interferes with the sound with is a Soundblaster 24bit external sound card. Whenever the red light appears, showing the drive working or when I play music and also start a program the sound becomes distorted, untill the light goes off. Previously I had a 40 gig seagate, and no problems there. Can I check the hd for soundness?
Thanks
Papa (cuz im very old)

What rpm is the drive, and how much ram do you have in the computer?
(The 137gb problem should be taken care of with new bios, be sure you have the latest update for your board)

The drive is 7200 rpm and ram is 2 sticks of 256 mb ddr ram, (the early ddr ram i'd say) total of 512. the motherboard is a asus a7a266-e . I disconnected a few drives to see if the powersuply was strong enough, and there was no difference. Again, noise distortion, and even slowing down of the music but this only happens when the red light goes on and the HD drive is momentarely active. When I play music and boot up internet explorer there is a lot of distortion of the music, until it has loaded.
Thanks
Papa

The hard drive probably came with utilities, or you can get them from the manufacturer's website to check the drive. It might help.
Also try reinstalling your media player, and try a different player as well.

Thanks for yout help. I unplugged the (external ) sound card and put the old soundcard back in the computer. There is no distortion now, so the nes wound card was obviously incompatible with the computer I had. The HD works fine and there is no noise now. Again, may thanks for setting the grey matter in action and thinking the problems through.
