Hard drive quit spinning
My hard drive quit. It all started at 3 am Sat when my UPS started beeping like the power went out only it hadden't so I got up and just turned the UPS off. The next day I turned it back on and it still beeped and then I tried to turn on the PC. I heard this sickenning electric shorting noise and then a puff of smoke. That was the PS. So I replaced the PS and now the PC turns on but it will not recongnized the HD, so I listen and realize it is not spinning. I take it out and confirm. It will not spin. DEAD HD this sucks totally.
So here is my question. I have a Western Dig WD1000 100 gig 8 meg and I am thinking of buying the same make and model online and changing the controler card. Does anyone have any experiance with this type of failure and if this will work or not? When a HD gets zapped does it get the motor too or stay in the controller card. Or any other good ideas? I do not want to have to send it to Ontrack if I can keep from that. It costs way to much. Thanks Chomot |

If you can get it at reasonable cost, it would be worth while to replacement. Though it relies on the cost in the end, you should not dwell on it too much, because even the same make cannot always work with it.
(Oo;?(But I don't understand you, are you buying another broken one?) |
