HD Problem, May Be Unfixable?
This is a bit of an odd problem, I don't know if anyone else has ever had it or not, and I'm not the greatest with hardware terminology, so bear with me. On the bottom of my hard drive, where the little circuit ribbon connects to the main part of the hard drive, it somehow got pulled off. Anyway, it looks like the soldering was just pulled off the circuit board. I was wondering if there was any method of reattaching it to the board (via superglue or soldering or whatever) so it can complete the circuit again and be used for a little while at least. It doesn't look like any part is broken, all that came off was the soldering, so I think gluing/re-soldering might work. Has anyone ever had this kind of problem, and if so, are there any alternative methods of fixing this, or if at worse, some way to salvage the info I had on that hard drive?

By "soldering" I'm assuming you mean the 40 pins that are on the hard drive. Your best option is to take the hard drive to a Computer repair shop and see if they can fix it. Don't try gluing any of the pins back on, it will probably make things much worse.

Gluing won't work! How 'bout replacing the PCB? It can be little tricky finding the right one. More information can be found at http://www.howtorecoverdata.com/dat...-adv-hd-pcb.htm. data4t |

is the HDD worth keeping? quite often it's better to just upgrade rather than repair. with the price of HDD's going down every day you can get a 120gig HDD in most place's for about 120 bucks. A dollar to a dollar and a half a gig is pretty standard these days. However if it is a 120 gig I'd contact the manufacturer to find out who would be able to repair it. I don't think I'd go to just any place that has a soldering iron or you're going to be wasting money.
Good luck |
