Ever since I built my computer i've has problems with it crashing. After installing all of the drivers and checking all of my hardware i've narrowed it down to the HDD. If I go idle off my computer it will crash and boot-up does not find a hard drive, so naturally it asks for a floppy disk and stays there until i get back. I have to shutdown about 2/3 times before it'll boot-up into the HDD. So, what I did was change the boot order to HDD, disabled, disabled. I went to reboot and it did not boot into anything so I went to check the BIOS. The order was set to disabled, disabled, disabled. I tried to change one of them to my HDD but it did not show up on the list. I rebooted several times with no change.
My HDD is IDE and it is from my old IBM computer, if that helps. I'm pretty sure my HDD is making me freeze up and crash sometimes, because I tested all the other hardware. If you could help me with my computer problem, it would be greatly appreciated. |

(^^;?(I couldn't get hold of your whole story.)
First, bios has nothing to do with this. Because, bios plays the part when the system is booting, and hand it over to the OS(=XP) , that's it. Second, HDD is not unthinkable. But if you think so, you can experiment it on other PC. Make haste to check. THird, Most doubtful is the power management or power supply itself. Check the driver and delete it once. Also check the bios setting APM. |

HDD sounds suspicious. Next time it works, immediately back up all your important data. THen test it on another computer if you can. HDD's are cheap, if it seems to be the drive, just replace it.
