OK Hurricane Charley fried my computer and I only have $799.00 to get a new one.
I thought this would be the best forum to get some advise on how to configure the best computer at that prcie...And I'm a gamer on top of that. So what would your rig look like at that price ? |

I assume your In America?
A Gaming machine will be hard at that price, what were your old system specs? and how much did you pay for it? Your best bet (again assuming you live in the US) would be to go to www.newegg.com, and see what you get from there. Nic_Italiano |

Does this new system need a monitor, or are you just building the box? You can look at Dell too, they can have some decent buys for full systems if you don't want to build your own.
On a budget, look at AMD AthlonXP cpus, they give most bang for your buck. You should be able to make a very decent system if you don't need a monitor, and at least an acceptable system if you do. Post again if you need more help.

That's fine guys, but i was hoping to see the specs you would come up with to give me an idea of how creative some of you could get with that price and I don't need a monitor just the box.
MB, CPU, RAM, etc.. |

Case- Up to you, I'll assume $75
PSU- ThermalTake Silent PurePower 480w $61 Mobo- Abit AN7 $92 CPU- Athlon XP 2500+ $79 Cooling- Your choice (Recommend Zalman, Thermaltake, Vantec) w/ arctic silver 5 ~$50 Video- Radeon 9800pro $205 RAM- 512mb Kingston pc3200 $79 HDD- 120gb SATA (I'd get WD) $95 Depending on your choice of case, you might also need to add more case fans for overclocking. All prices include shipping. If you came on a bit more money, I'd stick in another 512 of ram, but that puts you a bit over $799. You should be able to pretty easily OC this up a couple notches too. |

That extra $200 could open up the realm of Athlon 64's, if you're interested. Else I'd get more ram, and if you aren't going to overclock, I'd get a faster Athlon XP cpu. (Or a Northwood P4, but they cost more). Isn't hardware shopping fun? ![]() |
