Help me troubleshoot a computer problem...

First off here are my specs:
Asrock K7V88 mobo
768mb pc2700 ram
Maxtor 80gb 5400rpm (old hdd)
Gigabyte radeon 9600xt
Athlon XP 2600+ t-bred
HP 735n 17" flat CRT monitor
HP 4x DVD+RW drive
Maddog 52x cd-rw drive

Ok here is the problem. The monitor won't turn on (as in the light on the monitor is orange not green). But everything in my case runs fine and I hear beeps. I'm not sure what the problem is (I've tried diff monitor but to no avail). Someone please help me out?

Thanks

How many beeps? Try another video card in there if you can.

Things to try:

Different PC with same monitor and same signal cable
Different signal cable with same monitor and PC
Different Monitor with same PC and cable

If you're getting more than one beep this is probably your BIOS telling you it can't find the video card. If your vid card doesn't send a signal the monitor won't power on.

Check the vid card is seated in the slot correctly, or if PCI then try another slot.

Then borrow a vid card from a good friend and try it in your PC and try yours in their PC.

Then, in all likelyhood, RMA your vid card.

Cheers,

John.

Beeps don't just mean that there is a problem with the video card, they can mean a whole host of different things.

Here is a link to the beep code definitions of AMI BIOSes (look at the last page); whether it is usefull or not depends on the make of your motherboard.
