Help on replacing notebook hard drive
Can someone tell me if I can replace my existing drive on my Toshiba Satellite A30-514 laptop with a Travelstar E7K60 hard disk?
Here are the specs of the Toshiba: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/selected_product_option.jsp?service=UK&PRODUCT_ID=76723&DISC_MODEL=1 And here are the specs of the Travelstar: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/e7k60/e7k60.htm I just don't want to buy something and then find out that it doesn't work. Also if you have any other reccommendations for hard drive, I would really appreciate it. I am gonna search for alternatives myself as well. Anything I should look for to make sure it's compatible? For example I saw the toshiba one is ATA-5 and the travelstar one is ATA-6. Will my computer support ATA-6? Thanks |

(^^;?(I don't know its detail, but no one try to answer it for the time being. Karsh will be here in time.)
Standard name is somewhat confusing recently. Each organization gives different appelations to the same thing. Now it seems that ATA-5 is the appelation given to ATA-66 and ATA-6 is nothing but ATA-100 by ANSI standard. If so, even if the laptop doesn't support ATA-6, it should work as ATA-5. |
