Question Home-made comp, is it going to work?

I'm building a comp for college and I was just wondering if everything is compatibile and I'm not going to waste a lot of money. Here's the link: http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishHi...=VIEW&ID=689205

Comp info:
GIGABYTE "GA-K8NS PRO" nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 754 CPU -RETAIL
ABIT ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/VIVO, 8X AGP, Model "R9600XT-VIO" -RETAIL
AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1MB L2 Cache, The Only 64-bit Windows Compatible Processor - Retail
Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM
Western Digital Special Edition 80GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model WD800JB, OEM Drive Only
WinXP Pro

I'm especially interested in the compatibility of the vid card and the mobo, as well as the psu with everything else. Also note that I plan to ad in a CD-RW and a DVD-ROM that I've had for about 2 yrs now. Perhaps a second hdd, but I hardly see the point, and it's old as well and needs to be formatted.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Looks pretty cool. No colored light fans? That's a fancy case with a big PSU for cheap $$. Good luck.

Second question:

Is there anything on there that isn't necessary, or could be replaced with a cheaper conponent without losing performance value?

I'd delete the media. You can get that cheaper at office supply stores. I use no name free after rebater CD-R without any problems. You can get DVD-R media for less than $1 each if you buy in bulk. I'd delete the anti-virus and firewall stuff. You can get free antivirus and firewall off the net. AVG antivirus and ZoneAlarm firewall are free. I'd skip the firewall altogether. No need for the wrist strap. Just ground yourself to the case and don't shuffle on carpet when you assemble it.

I'd get a bigger harddrive.

Looks good... are the 3200+ and the Radeon 9600 worth the extra $$$?
If you can hang on that long, consider waiting until you get to college to buy XP. Some colleges are in the Microsoft Academic Alliance. (in other words, you can get it for $25, or even free some places) If you get SP2 when it comes out, forget the Symantec firewall... XP's built-in one is plenty. (yes, I have a beta copy)

The 3200+ and radeon 9600 are what I want so I won't have to upgrade for a while, although I could get a $750 proc and a radeon 9800 if I wanted to ensure that, but that's just crazy. My college doesn't offer a really good deal on xp, but I guess I'll get rid of the firewall.

I would indeed drop the firewall and antivirus, and put the money into a 9800 pro. Its only about $28 more than the 9600xt, and its another jump in performance. Otherwise, I'd say go for it

I think the quick reply confused me, if not, I apologize for the redundancy.

Well the 9600xt(256 mb ddr & 128-bit) is about $177 and the cheapest 9800 I can find is actually $135, but the memory is cut in half on that one and it doesn't have vivo. There's some 9800pros with 256-bit, but still 128MB ddr, that are about $152. The cheapest 9800 w/vivo is $335. Now vivo means video in and video out, right? I'm not exactly sure. And what does dvi mean? Is that digital video in? See, I want to be able to hook a ps2 right in so I can save space. If that's not possible tell me, and if it would work with a dvi port, then I can save money, and get a 9800pro. Or is the ddr more important than the bits performance wise?
