One more thing. How do I actually go about building the desktop computer? What are the necessary tools for doing it?
Thank you for your time. LinuxPenguin and megumi amatuka: What is the purpose for those links? |

Have you ever been inside a computer. Do you know how varioius parts fit together? Can you look at a motherboard and have a general idea of what stuff is? If not I'd advise that you buy a computer and not build one. It's very easy to screw something up and be left with nothing. If I were you I'd get some experience putting parts together. Make some upgrades to an existing machine. Find an old junker you can take apart and put back together. Reading articles is great and all but nothing works like actually doing it.

That's it, a screwdriver? Wow, that sounds easy. To crownjewel82 and xlordt: I have this inoperable desktop that I peeked into on occasion. I just never got around to identifying some of the cables and other parts in it. I know what a hard drive, a CPU, disk drive, motherboard etc. is, I just didn't get to knowing what type or what's hooked into what. But, if I have the time, I'll look into that. Edit: I'm actually a guy. Thought I clear that up. |

I do believe you can customize most any laptop nowadays, and I have heard good things from Sager in terms of customizing.

Then all you have to do is use that guide to help you build your computer. Every year MaximumPC publishes an really good article on how to build a PC. Maybe they'll have it in their archives. I think it's awesome that you want to build your own box. You'll find that you'll spend a little less than the brand box but you'll have superior branded components instead of cheap ones. |

Definitly but if you're not going for a test the book is a decent enough refrence to help you learn some things.

(^^;?(Ah, very easy.)
Even girls are doing it. Far easier than children's plastic model making. |

Recommend getting a antistatic cable for building it so you don't damage anything through static. In britain (because we have a ground pin in our electric sockets) leave the PSU plugged in but the plug turned off to kill a little static. And touch your hand on a grounded object before placing anything to kill static.
