Impossible to get my new computer t o work

Hi....

I build a computer with a MB ASUS A7V8X-MX, a AMD 1800XP, a maxtor diamond9 80GB, generic RAM 266MHZ.....

It start ok, in to the bios but then nothing impossible to install an OS even the soft for the maxtor HD to format, partition...nothing work, it recognise everything in the bios and during the boot it start the floppy or CD but stop before doing anything and does not give me any error it just bug....

Any IDea ???

I tried to change the Ram nothing better happend

Please Help.....

Hi cyriont!

Try removing all non-essential items from your machine. Get it down to one HHD, one CDRom, one stick RAM, etc. Then see if it boots. If successful, add additional devices one at a time to loace the culprit.

just something i wanted to post, if you installed the heatsink and fan to you processor, did you add the thermal paste, or peel the back of the sticker on the heatsink? if you do not make good contact with the cpu the computer will try to boot then freeze. or go into the bios then freeze.

also make sure that you have the heatsink on properly, I fried a new amd in about 3 seconds by putting the heatsink on wrong.

Have you tried to boot with a floppy , are you sure the HD is formatted.
