Is an SATA hard drive compatible with IDE?
I just got a SATA hard drive and I want to make it an external unit. I started shopping for an enclosure and I found very few of them made for SATA. In addition, they were expensive. Then, I saw a lot of IDE enclosure at good price. Is there anyway I could plug an IDE enclosure to my SATA hard drive? Will I loose performance?
Thanks |

I think SATA is just different from IDE(=ATA in ansi) in cable. So that if you know pin assignments, you should be able to use as pararel ATA. But if I remember right, there is serial-pararel transfer cable. If so, in any ways, POSSIBLE.
As for performance, present drive should not get over even ATA100 cable, serial contrivance is just for furture use. By the by, why does serial become faster than pararel from the start? |
