laptop cd/dvd rom doesnot work

i have a toshiba satellite 3000.. when i put a cd in it makes a few nocies and then dies off.. i think there was a short circuit on to the motherboard but dont know how to fix it..

can anyone tell me how to do it myself.. or what i should be looking for to replace on the motherboard. due to the short circuit..

or if u know how to solve the problem ...please help..
