Hey all,
Here's my problem: I have an old Toshiba Tecra 8000 that was upgraded to a 400 MHz machine with a 14 Gb HDD and 128 Mb RAM. It worked perfectly until one day it just died. The Laptop BIOS doesn't detect the Hard Disk. Windows XP installer detects that there are two partitions: C drive and D drive, approximately the same size (adding up to 14 Gb). I tried fdisk from the command prompt, Windows XP installer, and I'm even trying Linux! Unfortunately, nothing seems to help. Sometimes I can run fdisk, delete partitions and create new ones, but once I reboot my machine, everything is back to being broken. Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of the MBR or the partition tables? I don't care if data is lost (I would actually prefer a clean drive)... Thanks in advance... |

Get powermax.exe from Maxtor. If not worked, try other venders, Seagate, Samsung, any low-level-formatter that you'll find. Then find wipe.com origi. from IBM? now somewhere on the web.
Or connect it to the desktop PC by using special cable or connector. (Be careful, upside-down possible is many, if wrongly connected, it'll really die.) Then try Fdisk or other. By the way, did you have already tryed "fdisk /mbr"? |

You can wipe the entire drive with a utility available at http://www.howtorecoverdata.com. Look for wipe.zip.
